Rooms

City Limits

The highway climbs into the old city. Skyscrapers wrapped in vines rise ahead like green mountains. A faded sign reads WELCOME TO.

Vine Boulevard

A grand avenue drowned in vines. Trees grow out of bus shelters, and flowers bloom from traffic lights.

Reclaimed Park

A city park that went wild and never stopped. Statues wear crowns of ivy, and a playground has become a jungle gym in the truest sense.

Fountain Plaza

A dry fountain full of bones and bramble. Stranglers sway among the shattered café tables. Lantern light glows from a camp to the east.

Camp Lantern

A fortified camp in the lobby of an old bank, strung with hundreds of lanterns. Rangers trade stories around a cookfire. A sapling grown from the Mother Root keeps the blight away.

Drowned Library

Water fills the ground floor of the old library. Paperbacks float like lily pads, and stranglers wade between the shelves.

Rustwater Cathedral

A cathedral of rust-red stone. Its stained glass is gone, replaced by curtains of flowering vine. Rot priests chant in the pews.

Cathedral Nave

The great nave echoes with a single, endless note. Grey shapes drift between the columns, singing.

Ossuary Crypt

Walls of stacked skulls. In the center hangs a great bronze bell, and beneath it waits the Bell Warden.

Black Market Alley

A narrow alley strung with tarps and bare bulbs. Traders here don't ask questions, and their muscle doesn't answer them.

Skyline Tower Lobby

The marble lobby of the tallest tower in the city. Escalators lead up into darkness, and mossbrutes guard the elevators.

Skyline Tower, Floor 20

Office cubicles strung with fiber-optic webs that glitter in the wind from broken windows. Something glassy skitters in the ceiling.

Rooftop Garden

A garden on top of the world. Emberleaf grows in warm drifts around old satellite dishes, and tower drakes bask in the sun. The view stretches all the way to Eden.

Strangled Mall

A shopping mall where the vines got in through the skylights and kept going. Mannequins wear moss. Escalators are waterfalls.

Food Court Jungle

Fast-food signs peek through a canopy of glossy leaves. Spore drones drift between the tables like jellyfish.

St. Hollis Hospital

An emergency entrance choked with ambulances. Husks in hospital gowns wander the waiting room, still waiting.

Isolation Ward

Plastic sheeting flutters in the corridors. Biohazard signs. Shadows in scrubs move from bed to bed.

Metro Entrance

Stairs lead down into the metro, the tiled walls painted with warnings: THE TRAINS STILL RUN. East, a bridge reaches across the river toward grey marshland.

The Underline: Flooded Platform

Black water laps at the platform edge. Vines hang from the ceiling like curtains, and something crawls along the tracks.

The Underline: Tunnel 4

A long, dark tunnel. The rails hum underfoot, as if a train were coming. None ever does. Not yet.

The Underline: Maintenance Depot

A depot of rusted engines and tool racks. Sparks spit from a junction box, and the walls are lined with salvage.

The Underline: Signal Room

Banks of signal panels blink red and green, routing trains that no longer exist. A glass widow has made its nest in the wiring.

The Underline: Terminal Station

A grand underground station, its clock stopped at 6:14. A vine-choked train fills the far platform, and at its front, fused to the cab, the Conductor raises its lantern.

Broken Bridge

A suspension bridge with half its cables snapped, swaying over a brown river. On the far side, the land turns grey: the Ashen Marsh.
